The traditional Mother’s Day postcard sending campaign of Latvijas Pasts, which has been organised in social networks since 2011, is included in the postal sector’s Corporate Social Responsibility Best Practices Compilation Brochure 2013-2016 made by PostEurop, the association of European postal operators. The Mother’s Day postcard sending campaign is the first and still the most popular campaign of Latvijas Pasts held by the company in social networks, and the number of users participating in it increases every year.
In the search for an innovative way to combine the traditional field of postal activities – delivery of real items - with the habits of the young and socially active audience using the virtual environment for daily communication, Latvijas Pasts launched the Mother's Day postcard sending campaigns in social networks in 2011.
Within these campaigns any user of Facebook and Twitter can log in with their account on the website http://www.nosutipastkarti.lv/ and select postcards of special design for sending free of charge in order to greet their mothers, grandmothers, aunts or girlfriends on Mother’s Day. The properly completed postcards are delivered to the addressees within Latvia by Mother’s Day.
Assessing the activities of postal sector companies in the field of corporate social responsibility in the period from 2013 to 2016, PostEurop, the association of European postal operators, has recognised the Mother's Day postcard sending campaign of Latvijas Pasts as an example of good practice and included it in a special compilation brochure featuring various activities of postal companies from other countries.
Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out: “In the era of modern technology, receiving a real postcard has become a kind of exclusive gift, so we try to change it with our Mother’s day postcard sending campaigns, enabling everyone interested to greet a loved one and showing that the centuries-old tradition fits perfectly well in the internet environment, complementing it.”
The Mother's Day postcard sending campaign gained public attention already during the first activity in 2011, when nearly 5,000 social network users filled in 6,500 greetings postcards. Meanwhile, a total of 36,000 Mother’s Day postcards were sent within the most recent postcard sending campaign in 2017.
Latvijas Pasts holds the Mother's Day postcard sending campaign together with the agency Click/Grizzly Riga.
PostEurop was established in 1993 and currently comprises 52 members in 49 European countries.
