Latvijas Pastsmarks 75th anniversary of Freedom Monument with special envelope

On the national holiday of November 18, a special cancellation event will be held in Riga post office No. 50 for the anniversary envelope Freedom Monument - 75 released by Latvijas Pasts.

The anniversary envelope designed by artist Ģirts Grīva shows the Freedom Monument - one of the most remarkable symbols of Latvia. The special cancellation issued along with the envelope displays the three stars symbolizing freedom and the regions of Latvia. The envelope and special cancellation include the text Freedom Monument - 75.

The special cancellation event of the anniversary envelope will take place in post office No. 50 of Riga, 1 Station Square (shopping mall Origo), from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The Freedom Monument was unveiled in 1935 and was dedicated to honoring the soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence, but today it is considered a symbol of the independence, freedom and unity of the Latvian nation. The monument designed by Kārlis Zāle has thirteen groups of sculptures and bas-reliefs, depicting Latvian culture and history. The core of the monument is composed of tetragonal shapes on top of each other, decreasing in size towards the top, completed by a 19-meter high column bearing the 9-meter tall figure of Liberty - a young woman lifting three gilded stars.

The next new stamp issue is planned for December 3.
