The new service will enable faster e-commerce deliveries for residents of Central and Northern Europe, including the Baltics. The direct cargo flight connection will also serve as a logistics channel for Latvian businesses to export goods to Asia in the future.

"Consumer behaviour in e-commerce is changing rapidly, supply chains are becoming increasingly global, and speed is no longer merely a competitive advantage but a necessity. Together with our partners, we offer a solution that can accelerate customs clearance and logistics processes. Riga is now becoming the central operational hub of the region, strengthening the company’s export capacity,"

explains Ģirts Rudzītis, CEO of Latvijas Pasts VAS.

The company successfully demonstrated its logistics capacity during the busy December period, when the first FlyKhiva cargo flights carrying e-commerce shipments from Asia were processed. Within one month of launching the service, Latvijas Pasts processed nearly 250 tonnes of e-commerce shipments, which were promptly handed over for final delivery in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland and Finland.

"The country aims to develop advanced, innovative, high value-added services for the benefit of not only Latvia but the whole of Northern Europe. The new service strengthens the country’s competitiveness and Latvia’s position as a reliable and ambitious logistics partner, while creating a foundation for further innovation in the e-commerce ecosystem,"

accentuates Andulis Židkovs, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.

Latvijas Pasts has a long-standing, close cooperation with the Customs Administration of the State Revenue Service to provide a high-quality service to international e-commerce platforms. The export of Latvijas Pasts’ services will benefit shipment end recipients as well as the Latvian economy and businesses.

"We have succeeded in creating a platform for growth, connectivity and new opportunities. Latvijas Pasts’ service, attracting regular cargo flights from Asia to Riga Airport, represents a significant achievement of cooperation. At the same time, it is important that direct air transport opens opportunities for exporters in the opposite direction as well,"

points out Laila Odiņa, CEO of RIX Riga Airport.

The service inauguration event was attended by Tang Songgen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Latvia, with 2nd Secretary Zhang Jian and 3rd Secretary Deng Da; Akrom Khodjajev, Consul of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Vladimir Galperin, Honorary Consul of Uzbekistan in Latvia; Jelena Gavrilova, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of Latvijas Pasts VAS; Andris Puriņš, Member of the Board, and Kristiāns Godiņš, Head of Commercial Management at Latvijas Pasts VAS; Raimonds Zukuls, Deputy Director General for Customs and Director of the National Customs Board at the State Revenue Service; and Artūras Jurkevičius, CEO of RAVA Cargo, logistics and cargo sales partner of Fly Khiva.

Latvijas Pasts will continue to develop its business services, expanding both geographically and across its customer base. In parallel, a solution has been developed to enable the processing and customs clearance of e-commerce shipments arriving not only by air but also by land.
