Latvian National Symphony Orchestra Honoured on Its Centenary with New Stamp

This year, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra celebrates its centenary, marking a century of artistic achievement and professional growth. It is no coincidence that LNSO is regarded as a symbol of national culture — the orchestra not only gives Latvian society the opportunity to experience the world’s greatest symphonic repertoire but also introduces Latvia’s musical heritage and values to the world.
“We greatly appreciate the opportunity to be part of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra’s centenary story. The stamp not only links the past with the present but also inspires future achievements. Both Latvijas Pasts and the orchestra carry Latvia’s name beyond our borders, each in its own way,”said Andris Puriņš, Member of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, congratulating LNSO on its milestone anniversary.
The philatelic items — the postage stamp, envelope and first-day cancellation stamp — were designed by artist Krišs Salmanis and also incorporate composer Edgars Mākens’ LNSO sound logo.
The stamp, with a face value of €3.00, will be issued in 10,000 copies, while the specially designed envelope will be limited to 500 copies.
The new stamp will initially be available at Latvijas Pasts post offices and customer centres in cities and major towns, as well as through e-store: https://veikals.pasts.lv/. The first-day cancellation will take place at Congress Hall, 5 Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, Riga, on 12 February, from 12:00 to 16:00.
“We are honoured that, in celebration of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra’s 100th anniversary, Latvijas Pasts is issuing a special LNSO 100 stamp. In our view, this demonstrates the national significance of LNSO and reflects our mission — to reach every resident and region of Latvia,”commented Indra Lūkina, Director of LNSO, on the stamp commemorating the orchestra’s centenary.
In its 100th season, the orchestra is based at Riga Congress Hall, symbolically marking the cultural journey of Latvian audiences toward the new national acoustic concert hall — Riga Philharmonic Hall — which will be built on the site of Riga Congress Hall.
Philatelic products issued by Latvijas Pasts are highly appreciated among customers, collectors and experts alike. International philatelic associations evaluate stamps issued by Latvijas Pasts against strict standards, considering them on par with those from the major countries. These stamps are regularly included in global philatelic catalogues and collections of renowned philatelists.
